What is COVID-19

According to the World Health Organization, COVID-19 is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.  It was first reported in late 2019 and spread worldwide, resulting in a global pandemic.  The virus primarily spreads through respiratory droplets and aerosols when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, talks or breathes.  It can also spread by touching a contaminated surface and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth, though this is less common.
